In medical school, Ahmad Amin studied the tapes of Stephen Strange's surgeries, calling his surgeries incredible. He met his idol briefly when Stephen was traveling in Cairo, where Stephen showed him his now damaged hands, and asked him about his magical ring. Ahmad told him he had gotten it in the Himalayas during some soul searching, and that a monk had given it to him claiming he had dropped, though the ring truly wasn't Ahmad's. He decided to keep it as a good luck charm, believing it helped him be a good surgeon. During a battle with spirits, Ahmad loses the ring and fears not being able to help the many patients in need in Cairo's hospital, but Strange reassures him that he was already a skilled surgeon without it and helps him save the patients.
