Begum Khurshid Mirza
Begum Khurshid Mirza (March 4, 1918 – March 29, 1989) was a Pakistani television actress and a film actress in the pre-partition era. She was born as Khurshid Jehan in Aligarh, India, to Sheikh Abdullah and Waheed Jahan Begum, the founders of Women's College, Aligarh. Her father was a practising lawyer and philanthropist who was keen to bring education and enlightenment to Muslim women. Her elder sister Rashid Jahan was a prominent Urdu language writer and one of the founding members of the Progressive Writers' Movement. Mirza married in 1935 to a police officer Akbar Mirza and migrated to Pakistan in the wake of the partition of India in 1947.
Mirza started her acting career in the early 1930s with silent films. She made her talkie debut in the 1935 film Ishq-e-Punjab alias Mirza Sahiban. She went on to act in over 30 films, including Tansen (1943), Noor Jehan (1946), and Meena Bazaar (1950). She was also a successful television actress and appeared in several popular series, including Kiran Kahani (1972), Ujbar (1973), and Aaina (1977).
Mirza was a versatile actress who could play a variety of roles. She was known for her strong performances and her ability to bring a sense of realism to her characters. She was also a gifted singer and often sang her own songs in her films.
