Spider-Man manages to defeat Creel by tricking him into running a gauntlet where he absorbs multiple objects thrown at him, culminating in Creel absorbing two different chemicals that cause him to explode. The Absorbing Man later battles and is apparently killed by the hero Sentry during the events of the Civil War. Carl Creel was a boxer who was given a liquid of gamma radiation from Loki, transforming into Absorbing Man. Creel easily escaped his cell by ensuring that his guards were facing away from him before turning into glass, becoming invisible to their human eye, and tricking them.
